3 days, 25 stalls powered, zero fuel burned: here’s how our BULK battery took over part of the energy supply for the Street Food Festival in Marseille.
BULK: 160 kW – 600 kWh – 7 tons – 100% second-life EV batteries
Every year, Provence Tourisme organizes the Street Food Festival on the Parvis de la Major, in Marseille. For the 2026 edition, held September 10–12, the organizers wanted to power a third of the festival’s food stalls — 25 stalls — with clean electricity, without relying on a noisy, polluting thermal generator in the heart of the city. Provence Location, the event’s technical partner, called on PESS Energy to take on this challenge.
The Challenge: More Power Than the Grid Could Provide
On site, the available grid connection could only supply 30 kW (a standard 63 A three-phase feed). But at peak times, the 25 stalls needed around 138 kW to all run at once — nearly 5 times more than the grid could provide. Closing that gap with a standard diesel generator was out of the question: too much noise, smoke and smell for a public event in the heart of Marseille.
The Solution: BULK
BULK is our giant, mobile battery: 160 kW of continuous power and 600 kWh of capacity, weighing around 7 tons, built from second-life electric vehicle batteries. Over the three nights of the festival, it worked alongside the existing grid connection in “grid boost” mode: whenever demand exceeded what the grid could supply, the battery stepped in automatically, with no outage and no delay.

The Results, in Numbers
Over the three nights, BULK supplied 1,204.6 kWh to the festival’s stalls, boosting the grid up to 255% of its initial capacity (76.4 kW peak on Saturday, against a 30 kW grid limit). Most notably, it prevented 4 grid power outages: the battery took over seamlessly, and customers noticed nothing.
For the service provider, the equivalent in diesel generator use would have meant:
- 602 liters of diesel not burned
- 1,602 kg of CO2 avoided
- €1,415 in fuel savings
